my surgeon/NUT say to get 64+oz of liquid in each day. My question is, now preop i do drink a lot of water but most days i barely get in like 48oz of liquid.....of course there are some days i even get more than 64oz of liquid. my question is why after surgery do we constantly need 64+oz of liquid or risk dehydration. does the surgery itself make you more at risk to dehydrate? what happens if i don't get in at least 64oz after surgery and i stay around 48oz will i dehydrate because of that

Its important to get the water in because you aren't getting nearly as much from food as you did preop; and because you are losing fat at an alarming rate and you have to flush all the waste and byproducts of that out of your system.

I admit, I used to drink 100 ounces a day of water preop and postop its hard to get it in. I have to make a real effort.

I am only able to get in 48 ounces a day and have been doing so for a little over a year. The gold standard is 64 ounces or more. If you are able to get in a minimum of 48 ounces you should be fine. My doctors office is aware of my drinking habits and everything is fine with me.

I was told my by NUT that 45oz in the min we would have to drink to not become dehydration. I am getting less then that right now for a few weeks not becasue of the ulcer i have. I seam fine going to the gym is hard. Dr is saying to push the water. Did you try mixing it with tea packets or hot tea at night? I even stared to mix my shakes with it too trying to get all the water i can in.

Keep us posted!
