Good weght?
For people who are considered Overweight (BMI of 25.0 to 29.9) and have two or more risk factors, the guidelines recommend weight loss to Normal Weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9).
For people who are considered Overweight (BMI of 25.0 to 29.9), do not have a high waist measurement (waist should be height in inches divided by 2), and have less than 2 risk factors, the guidelines recommend that you may only need to prevent further weight gain rather than lose weight.

I literally choose the first weight that gave me a normal BMI. I am 5'3" and the normal range for me is 105 (18.5) to 141 (24.9) and I made my goal 140. I figured I could go lower for more cushion but I didn't want to pressure myself if I couldn't get any lower.
For someone 5'7" your range would be 119 (18.6) to 160 (25) so you can pick a number somewhere in that range.

I agree. I looked at the BMI charts and chose the highest weight considered normal for my height. I've never been a normal weight before and I didn't want to go for some unrealistic goal that I might not be able to maintain. I am 5'4" and I chose 145ish as my goal. If I go lower than that, fine, but if not, then I'm ok with that too. I'm not so worried about getting to a specific goal number-wise as I am with getting to a healthy place and staying there long term.
I am 5'7" also and currently weigh 161. My MD says I am fine where I am (and that was when I weighed 167 at his office) and to not go below 155.
"Normal" for us is between 118 and 159. If I weighed 118 I would look like a skeleton. I look great now (in clothes!) and very comfortably wear small/medium tops and 8 or 10 bottoms. Coming from a 3X and 24/26 bottom, I would say I am happy.
I do cardio and weight training on a regular basis so I may shrink some more without the scale moving or the scale may move.
So my goal is 159, a mere 2 lbs away but it is just for the principle.

It's true, everyone is soooo different. When people hear what I weigh, they are shocked. I don't know where it's all packed in but it's somewhere! Even when I was morbidly obese, I didn't "look" like someone you would think weighed 326.
It could be the exercise that has made me smaller. I have not been a maniac about it but when I do go, at least 3-4 times a week, I make it worth the trip to the gym.

My dr. never gave me a goal weight. My body told me where it wanted to be. I stopped losing weight at about 173. It varied 4 or 5 pounds either way. I had a tummytuck about 6 weeks ago and am now at about 165. According to the charts, I am still overweight. I am very happy with where I am and how I feel. Thats what is most important to me.
Congrats on your success.
