HELLO BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS OF "OH".....I GOT A QUESTION FOR YA...SO IM WONDERING HOW MUCH PROTEIN IS TOO MUCH. RIGHT NOW I CONSUME PROTEIN SHAKES FOR TWO OF MY MEALS, BREAKFAST AND LUNCH. THE PROTEIN INTAKE FOR BOTH OF THOSE MEALS COMBINED ARE 120 G. NOT TO MENTION WHAT I CONSUME FOR DINNER WHICH IS ANOTHER 14 GRAMS OR LESS DEPENDING ON WHAT LEAN CUISENE MEAL I EAT. SO IS THAT TOO MUCH? I HAVE YET TO SET A DATE FOR SURGERY BUT I WANNA B ON THE RIGHT TRACK BEFORE SO IT WONT B SO HARD AFTER. PLEASE HELP....AND CONGRATS TO ALL THE LOOSERS OUT THERE ALREADY AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! SAVE ME A SPOT ON THE LOOSERS BENCH!

Are you using a double scoop of protein in each shake? I wouldn't, I'd spread that out over four protein shakes over the day if you want to, but it sounds like you are spendign moer on your protein than you need.

Since you're pre op I don't think that's "Too much" ... but it is excessive. But once you're post op you probably will want to only do one scoop for a while to see how your body likes all the drinks and such, plus calorie count on each scoop could be a little much???

But yea, I'd say 60g of protein in one shake is a little high. I don't think our body can absorb that much at once.

I don't think our bodies can absorb that much at a time...someone else will chime in here I hope...When I was pre-op someone told me that 20-30 grams per a meal is sufficent. So I don't think you are doing any harm, but it might be excessive and wasteful..why go thru more shake powder then you have to?

I don't think there are actual scientific studies on this.... there's a LOT of "common wisdom" on this, but I don't hold with.... BUT .... let's say you intake 60 g of protein plus a another 100 calories in milk or additives... your body might say "whoa....way more calories than I need, let me go ahead and STORE (fat) those 100 non-protein calories...... which of course is NOT what we want.

Yup...your body can only absorb about 30 g of protein an hour, so if you're drinking a 60g shake, you are 'wasting' 30g...

Good luck on your surgery!

my Dr. said anything over 25 or 30 grams of protiene in an hour is wasting it.

Just remember, lots of protein also means your kidneys are working extra hard. Just make sure you are drinking, drinking, drinking along with that protein.

I know post op we only absorb about 25-30 gms of protein per serving so check you labels and see what you're getting. After surgery we don't need the extra calories if we're not getting any more protein in so become a label reader and see what you can get for the most protein with the least amount of calories. (and that you can stomach). I've been on here for almost 11 yrs and I've consistantly seen warnings about going over 100 gms of protein a day post op as it can lead to kidney stones and possibly gall stones. Many get up to that amount but if you have a history or stones, you'll be advised to stay under it. Most post ops are required to consume 60-80 gms of protein per day as a general rule. Check with your surgeon as to her/his recommendations.
