I just went shopping for the first time Monday night, and realized that I fit into size 18 pants in a "regular" store - like Target or Walmart, NOT a plus-sized store like Avenue or Lane Bryant. I used to HATE how all the stores' sizes seem to mean different things - like getting sz 18 jeans at Avenue, feeling pretty good about that and going to get sz 18 jeans at walmart and leaving the store CRYING because nothing came NEAR fitting me. It got to the point where I really have NO CLUE what size I was wearing pre-surgery. So I know I've lost 35lbs and a lot of inches, but I don't really know how many SIZES I've lost.
Again, congratulations. Someone who hasn't walked in our shoes just won't understand how fantastic this feeling is. I'm so proud of you!

First off, A LOT of wedding attire is skirt / top now, just for the sake being able to get EXACTLY the style combination you want. So I'm sure no one (except you) thought twice about the fact that you were wearing a skirt/top instead of a dress for that reason. Other than that, I hope you had the EXACT ceremony you wanted and I'm sure it was beautiful if you did. I have begged off from a few weddings because of my weight. Specifically because of how hard to find / expensive it would be for my attire. I can sew! I sew clothing, quilts, purses, whatever, and I was TERRIFIED to even MEASURE myself to make my own formal gown! I could NEVER have been measured by a seamstress. A 180lb friend of mine was charged for TWO dresses when she was in her sister's wedding - I weighed A LOT more than 180! My husband is senior enlisted the military, and has mentored a LOT of younger troops - we get A LOT of invitations to attend or even BE attendents in weddings and other events. He's in perfect shape. I'm obviously not. He went to a lot of things alone. :( But I'm changing that.
I just don't have the CONFIDENCE that I see a lot of other Lane B and Avenue customers have. As I got heavier, I just COULD NOT wear trendy little skinny jeans and tops. I didn't want to see my fat arms and gut, so I didn't think anybody else did, either! I know a lot of the ladies I see are younger than me, and probably DO have more confidence because they are younger, cuter, etc. I also remember a time when my mother was first shopping for plus size clothes (Lane B was in business, but kind of far away; we had a couple of local mom & pop boutique-styled shops) and plus sized equalled UGLY. Nothing fashionable. Knit, shapeless, black or other dark colors, wash and throw away tents. So I'm glad someone finally acknowleged that plus size women are now the MAJORITY, and we are willing to $PEND on DECENT clothing. Can we at least GET what we're (willing to) pay for?!
I got some jeans at Avenue and they did fine for about a week. Then they started wearing, and a few of the belt loops broke when I pulled them up. Because we're heavy it's okay to JACK us on the quality of the clothing we wear? Thanks a lot, jerks!
