OMG !!!  Today I was feeling pretty good, but worrying about my protein intake and so I remembered reading on here that turkey jerky was a great source of protein. Well,  I ate some and then within 1/2 hour i was on the toilet !! Within 3 hours I was is excrutiating pain, Sincerely, it felt just like labor pains !!  Went to ER received meds and sent home. No explanation as to what it was or how to deal at home !!! Anyone else have anyting similar and can offer advice?!  I can't even drink water without the pains coming back !!! I don't think it is dumping since I only used the bathroom once.  Can anyone help?!   Thanks    Angi

I did this when I was just a few weeks out.  Had a cheese stick wrapped in deli ham.  Thought I was going to die.  Every time I lifed my head, I threw up.  I live close to 4 hours from my doctor and it was a Sunday.  After trying PO Phenergan I finally gave it up and called the on call doctor, which happened to me mine, and he called me in some Phenergan suppositiories.  I was weak the next day but I got over it after I could keep something on my stomach.

Hope you get to feeling better.

They didn't mention that you could have food stuck? Obstruction? Nothing?? Wow, that seems odd. ASMBS has a flow-sheet for ER docs of stuff to keep in mind when treating RNY patients.
My only advice is to take it easy for a day or two, just do liquids & shakes as you can tolerate. I've heard papaya enzymes are good for when you get food stuck. Obstructions - make sure you're doing regular BMs.

Do you know how to get one of those flow sheets?  That's something I'd like to carry in my wallet just in case.

OK can't seem to get the image to insert. Ugh! Go to the ASMBS website and search "Clinical Pearls for the Emergency Care of the Bariatric Sugery Patient" and it's saveable as a PDF file.

Thanks for the info !!  I seen my Doc. the day after and he thought might be gall bladder then I reminded him that I do NOT have one !!!!  He said I might be developing a stricture?!  Okay, now what is that? I am getting so very frustrated !!! I thought I was so prepared, but I am finding that I think I am clueless !!!!  I printed the flow sheet off and will carry with my insurance card !!! Thanks for the help, I truly appreciate it !!  Any help on getting in enough protein daily. Was told to not worry it will happen. Da** I don't want to get sick or have my hair fall out etc..... I feel so lost !!!!
