5 Month Labs.. Pls Help me interpret
Hello All,
My doc does his first post op labs 6 mos post op. I had mine done a bit early b/c I was having numbness and tingling in hands and feet. I do have back and neck problems, but wanted to cross off low B-12 as the culprit first. He has reviewed my labs and said all is fine. However from reading on here I think my Vit D is low. Please help vitamin and lab gurus... Thanks in advance I appreciate your time.

Can you post your lab ranges along with the test results? It'll make it easier for others to comment.
Saying this I'll say YES your Vitamin D could be bumped up, keeping it above 80 is IMO optimal. Also I'd personally up my B-12 daily intake to get that closer to 1000.
I don't see a ferritin number, did your doc check your ferritin?

Yeah, your B12 is defintely high enough that it would not be causing the numbness or tingling. That happens if it gets down to about 400. Ideally your B12 would be a bit higher, around 900-1000 is great, but it's not so low that it should be causing any symptoms.
Your vitamin D is quite low, though, you're right. If it's below 80, you don't absorb calcium so well and you're at higher risk for heart disease and some types of cancer. So you wanna take some dry D3.
There are a whole bunch of labs I don't see here that we really needed checked. You're missing ferritin, PTH, vitamin A, zinc, copper, at a minimum. I also do B6, selenium, vitamin E, vitamin K, prealbumin. If I was you, I'd call my doc back and ask him to order the rest of my labs.

Thanks Kelly, how much dry D3 do you think I would need to bump up my Vit D? I've been taking liquid sub-lingual B12 1 time a day, maybe I should take it twice? I just bought the pill form sub-lingual and its 2500 mcg per pill. I will call and ask for more labs too! Thanks for your input, it is valued!!

2500 mcg per pill once a day is probably fine.
For D3, I think I would buy the 50,000 IU ones from vitalady.com and take them several days a week. Maybe not every day, but four or five days.
It's kind of just guess work though. Get those things checked in a couple months and see how much your levels have gone up.

You can get your HDL a bit higher by eating some whole roasted almonds or pistachios each day. Just a small handful should do it. This will also protect your heart from any bad LDL, etc. I found some Blue Diamond Oven Roasted Almonds with dark chocolate baked right in at Walmart, Walgreens, etc. A tasty cruncy snack if you are at the stage to eat nuts.
Also, pumpkin seeds are good for other macronutrients but find the lowest sodium. I find that David brand is the lowest I can find off the shelf.
