I know its a respect thing, I usually get people asking me what grade in school I'm in and that I can't be old enough to drink. I'm just not used to the ma'am thing. Not heard very often in the sticks of west central mn. Where I live we all know each other. Pop. 800 people.

Yup it's a Southern thing and a manners thing. I went through the same thing when I moved to TN. I actually kinda miss being called maam, lol. (I live in PA now).
