Lab help

I need some help! I had labs drawn about 2 weeks ago and this is what the results were (wasn't a whole workup, just a few things Dr wanted to check because of some issues I am having)
Hemoglobin: 10.8
Hematocrit: 34.9
Iron, serum: 41
Iron Binding Capacity: 538
Ferritin serum: 5
B12: 256
Folic Acid: 7
Vit D: 15

So he put me on 325mg of Iron (Ferrous Sulfate) 2x day
also put me on 50,000IU Vit D, once a week for 8 weeks then once a month for a 4 months.
I am very concerned about my B12 levels but can't seem to find a Dr that cares about it as much as I do. I take sublingual 2500mcg 2x a day right now.
What should I do?  I hate my surgeon (I am 3 1/2 yrs out) because he never seems concerned that my numbers are on the very low end of normal or too low.  I can't seem to find a primary care doctor that knows how to deal with WLS patients either!

Are there any GP's noted on this website?  Or maybe another surgeon would have a GP recommendation.  Or maybe the hospital where you had the surgery has a GP recommendation.

I haven't looked on this website for a GP recommendation, where would I look?  The hospital or my surgeon's office had no suggestions at all either.

Don't be mad at your surgeon for what he was never taught.

If you email me privately, e might be able to fix some of these numbers. They are so scary low that tossing out a generic suggestion would just be foolish, IMHO.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

You need to see a haematologist - an iron infusion is definitely called for and so is better B12 supplementation.   You should self refer if that is possible with our insurance and sooner rather than later.

Your iron is very low.  I prefer carbonyl iron to ferrous sulfate because I don't like to be constipated  Carbonyl is usually absorbed better too.

Your B12 is dangerously low.  Got numbness and tingling in your hands and feet yet?  Are you tired?  Depressed.  How much B12 have you been taking?  When my B12 got low (and I'm talking about 550, still a lot better than yours) I started doing shots once a week.

And your D is very low, too.  Had you been taking any vitamin D?  The prescription won't do you any good because it's D2 and in oil.  Nobody absorbs D2 well and you malabsorb fats so you'll absorb it less than others would.  You need dry D3.  Many of us use 50,000 IU D3 from vitalady.com.  We do it once a day for a month or two, then get tested again and cut back if needed.

Script D, likely those green softgels of D2, won't be much help in elevating your D levels to where they should be. You need the dry D3, 50K IU strength.  Take 4 per week, one every other day, and retest in 1 month.  I use this strength and I'm almost to the 80 or more for my D labs.  I don't know how long you've taken 2 of those 2500mcg daily, but if you just started them, they should work well to raise your D levels. If you B12 labs are still at the 900+ that you need, speak to your doctor about B12 shots. Most post ops do ok with sublinguals, but a select few do better with shots.  DAVE
