Does anyone live around Atlanta, Ga. I am relocating for job will be working around piedmont rd, so techinally not in the heart of Atl. I would like to find a house to rent north/western of ATL close to my job so I will not have to commute into the city of Atl. Can anyone give me any helpful tips on relocating like do you need state inspection/emission for car? What are local taxes like? etc etc.

Emission inspection requirements depend upon the county in which you reside. I'm in Walton which currently has no requirement. However, Gwinett county, one of the adjoining counties does require emissions testing. Generally speaking taxes tend to be worse North of town. Let me know know if I can be of further assistance.

I grew up in GA (headed home on Saturday for the holidays) and if I remember correctly, the only counties that require emission checks are in the Metro Atlanta area so more than likely you will have to get an emission test before you can tag and title your car in the state.  Also, GA has ad valorem taxes on personal property (cars, boats, etc) and you pay it as a part of your yearly tag fee which makes getting a car tagged and titled in GA expensive.

I have found the ad valorem tax to actually be cheaper that may tag fees in other states.  My one care was about 800 to tag in NV and only a couple hundred in GA.

Yep, I believe Cobb has some fairly high tax rates too, however its all relative to the tax rates you're accustomed to. Posting a URL below to a site looks like it may have more detailed info. Didn't get to spend a lot of time on the site as I am surfing and posting from my phone. Not the easist way to explore a site.
