I know I have most likely missed a post concerning this question, but my lord I AM COLD to the bone not just a little bit or some of the time but ALL the time.  I am a person who NEVER has owned a jacket, long sleeve shirts were not for me I was always very warm, even as a younger woman not obese at all, I was warm.  I have always been anemic, and still was one that wore shorts and tank tops in the winter.  Now I am taking iron am not anemic and I am so very cold.  People are saying it will regulate out as my new body gets used to the new me some of you veterans please tell me this is true.

I sit in front of a small electric heater at my house have one at work as well, wear long sleeves under all my clothes, wear a jacket at times even with those and this is indoors.  I'm burning everyone at home out keeping the house at 72-74 is sending my electric through the roof as well.  Please someone let me know this to will pass.

Now that I have vented hope everyone is doing well.!!!!

Sorry for the on and on...

I was cold the day after surgery. I hadn't even lost weight yet and I was cold. I am still cold 3 years later.
At first it's due to the drastic reduction in calories. Your body isn't going to waste the few calories it has to spend on keeping you warm. It's got some major machinery to keep going.
Later its due to loss of insulation. My body still wants that 400 pound coat.

Things that help...electric mattress pad with dual control
sweaters, layering, getting control of the thermostat and trips to sunny locales.

I have to confess that I'm glad to read that someone else is going through the whole "cold" thing.  I've been complaining to my husband for weeks now that I'm cold ALL the time.  I, too, am a person that was never cold, always complaining that it was too hot.  My coldness started several weeks pre-op and continue now that I'm post-op.  The roles in my house are now reversed....I'm the one complaining about the cold.....not my husband!  lol

I'm freezing most all of the time. Sorry to say it hasn't changed yet for me.

I was severely anemic prior to surgery. Now I am like a frozen banana ALL THE TIME. Good luck trying to keep warm. I am sooooo looking forward to spring and summer. Warmth.

been there and done that, now at 11 months post op it seems to have leveled out, or its getting warmer down here in florida..but now the hot flashes have kicked in, and i think that is worse, as with cold, you can add more layers, but with hot...there are so many clothes that can or should come off unless your home by yourself...
we have lose our insulation that kept us hot, and the hormones being released along with the fat...get some extra clothes or an electric throw just for you

Yes, it is an extremely common problem.  Your body is used to having all that "natural insulation" to help keep you warm (and therefore it is not used to having to work so hard to warm you up) and your metabolism is likely lower now than it was before surgery as well.

I was the same way as you before surgery (only wore a coat when it got below freezing) and was very uncomfortable the first couple of winters after surgery.  This is my 5th post-op winter, and this is the first winter that I have noticed that it is not as bad as previous years.  I don't get cold quite as easily (but when I do, it takes longer to warm me up and if I get really chilled, it takes a hot bath/shower or some time under the electric blanket (which I specifically bought for that purpose a couple of years ago!) to warm me up.

Bottom line is that it eventually fades for some people but not for others.  I am not sure I know of anyone in "real life" who has had it completely go away, though.  Probably the lowered metabolism issue...

I'm presently sitting at my desk with the heater on, and keep putting my hands in front of it because they're like ice cubes.
