Plastic Surgery??

I have questions for anyone who has gotten plastic surgery? Especially tummy tuck. Did your insurance pay for this procedure after your gastric bypass? if so, what qualifications did you have to meet in order to get this done?

Insurance usually pays only for a panniculectomy (removal of excess skin below the belly button) if it covers any plastic surgery at all.  The usual requirements are that the skin hangs down to a certain point (usually below the pubic bone) and that you have documentation of a certain number of months of rashes or other skin issues and various prescription and non-prescription attempts to treat those problems.

Occasionally, people are able to get a full tummy tuck (with muscle tightening) paid for by insurance if they have other issues like a hernia that needs repaired, but it is considered cosmetic rather than medically necessary.
