I've been told by the dress supplier that I need to order my bridesmaid dress no later than late July to get it in time. The wedding is in November. I'm two months post op and down 40 or so pounds so far....how in the world can I figure out what size dress to order? Should I go in, get measured, and order a size down from that? Realistically speaking, if I order the dress late next month, there's no way that will still be my size come NOVEMBER! I don't want to mess up my friends wedding with an ill-fitting dress. ANyone out there had this experience and what did you do about it??

Maybe you can explain the situation and they can make an exception this time. Worth a try!

I would order at least one size smaller, and keep in mind you can always find a local seamstrist to alter it.

Totally had the same experience! I had my surgery 5 months before my BFF's wedding and was SO honored to be a part of it, but entirely freaked out about having to order it even before I had my surgery. I was size 22/24 preop, ordered the dress as a size 16 -and thought "there's no way I'm gonna fit into a size 16 by then". Um, yeah, I had it altered 2 weeks before the wedding and was GLAD it had straps because it would have fallen off at some point in the ceremony..... I would order the dress at least a size or two down from where you are right now, have a seamstress on hand for a week or 2 before hand and also have some plans for last minute (e.g. safety pin the dress to your bra, have double-stick tape on hand, straps, etc). At over 1 year out, that dress is just hanging in my closet as a memory b/c I'm a size 2/4 now!

Im getting married in October and ordered my dress in January. I was 5 months out so I ordered one size smaller than what my then current measurements suggested. I should be OK, but will find out in July when the dress comes in.

They can usually alter a dress about 3 sizes. So I think you will be OK if you order 1 size smaller.
