Just checking to see what some of you might be taking for Arthur? I was taking Mobic before surgery but of course now I can't. I have been taking Tylenol Arthritus and it is helping some but not like what I need. I am almost four months out and am really needing something to help with the pain and stiffness.Any suggetions out here?

I'm in the same fix. For some reason, the pain without ibuprofen is not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm never really comfortable, and impact exercise is O-U-T of course, but I can move and function. If I plan a strenuous day I take a Tylenol.

Other than that, the anti-inflammatory diet we're on as part of the RNY food plan does help. Sugar is a major cause of general inflammation. I drink a bit of caffeine and indulge in a very few refined carbohydrates, and I believe if my diet were pure I'd feel better.

I'm working hard on strengthening my legs to take the stress off my knees, where the worst arthritis is. It does help.

There are herbal and "natural" supplements that seem to help: glucosamine, chondroiten, boswellia, & turmeric are the ones I use.

Swimming & water exercises with lots of stretching three times a week help with my overall stiffness. I have a video called Yoga for the Rest of Us that would be helpful if I used it.  ;-)

Where is your arthritis?

Thanks for your input. Mine is mainley in my hands and hips these days. My main objection to Tylenol besides that it is not that much help is the amount you have to take, just don't think that could be good for you!

I an using Norco when it is really bad.
I did notice over the holiday when I was eating things that had more carbs it it that I felt worse, my regular diet helps a lot.
I also am doing gel injections in my knees and cortisone in my hips, waiting for the pain to be uncontrollable before replacement.
So far so good , but I do miss Motrin. Check on the Arthritis board here on OH and see what they are all doing
Good luck!! I am hoping when I loose most of my weight I won't need knee replacement , keeping my fingers crossed !!

Trameel rub on really helped me get through until I had my knee replacement.  Buy it at the health food store.

I would not  be able to sleep if not for Tramadol.  My knees drive me nuts.  I've had arthroscopic, gel and steroid injections.  Thus far nothing has helped.

Tamadol works for us even though it is time released?
How is it different from Norco? is it addictive ?

Tramadol is not time-released.  Well, it is available in a NON time-release formula is what I mean.

I take Tramadol 4 times a day and on bad days I add in Vicodin.  Tylenol does nothing for my arthritis pain, but I also have one knee that needs to be replaced because the arthritis is so severe (but I am too chicken to have it done right now).  The biggest problem without NSAIDs is that even if you take prescription meds for the pain, the pain relievers don't do anything to help with the swelling (which is where the stiffness comes from) and steroid injections are the ony type of anti-inflammatory we can take safely.
