Band to RNY Revision help??
RNY on 03/20/12
I lost fairly steadily the first year. I was 292 the day of surgery and 244 the day I got the fluid out of my band. I am 250 today, so slowly gaining. I lost probably 75% of the weight the first 6 months after surgery, and the rest was very slow. I never did reach my goal. I am hoping to get down to between 140-150 with an RNY.

I am pre-op revision Band to RNY. I really hope he can do it all in one shot because I do not want to recover from surgery twice. I do not have that much vacation to spend on things not involving tropical islands ;-)
On the Revision board there are some folks that post their surgeons REQUIRE two different procedures. I would trust my surgeon. Looking at your upper GI they probably have a good feel of how difficult the procedure will be.
Surgery Consult in TWO DAYS.... can't wait.

If I had to do 2 different procedures, I would really have to think about it. I have a hard time coming out of anesthesia as I am nauseous and vomit. I have had 4 surgeries with anesthesia, and 3 of the times I started vomiting as soon as I came too. Not a good thing to have happen after a Lap Band procedure. The nurse I had originally talked to said I would probably have to wait 3 months, but it was up to the surgeon. When I talked to the surgeon, he thought it was crazy to NOT do it all at the same time, so that made me feel better. Best of luck on your surgery. Do you have it scheduled?

I had my revision from realize band to RNY in November. I stayed at the hosp 3 days and came home doing well. I re-entered 2 wks later for infection where the port was on my band, he stated this was rare, stayed overnight got IV antibiotics and was on my way. Best decision I have ever made, down almost 80 pounds. Feel great. No regrets!

I had band removed, gallbladder removed, cysts from liver for biopsy and RNY in one surgery. I was in the hospital 2 nights. I got nauseous after the laparoscopic band surgery but did not have that problem with the open RNY. I haven't had any unusual problems 5 months post op and wish I had RNY instead of band in 2008. I went on a high protein diet prior to surgery and believe this helped.
Banded Oct 2008: 290
RNY Feb 2012: 245
Dr's set goal: 170 reached Oct 11, 2012
My goal: 160 reached Dec 1, 2012
Today : 145-150
I am half the person I was in 2008.
Thanks for your response. I was nauseous after my Lap Band surgery, as well as 1 of 2 surgeries last year I had for my thyroid, and when I had my C-section 10 years ago, so I am obviously sensitive to anesthesia. Your numbers look similar to mine. I was 292 when I had my LB surgery in 2008 and was 244 when they removed the fluid from my band last month; as of last night I was 250, so I'm slowly gaining. I'm glad to see you've done well with your surgery. Part of me regrets getting the band, but I'm hoping that maybe it helped me learn some long-term habits that will help me be more successful with the RNY. I just hope I don't gain a whole lot more before get my revision, which probably won't be until after the first of the year! Keep up the great work!
I had my band out in may this year & had open RnY was in the hospital for 2days. Pain was minimal. I had a pca for 1/2 a day then a duregesic patch that snowed me, they took it off in 1day. This was the easiest surgery I have ever had. I've lost 40 # & feel great. I wish I'd done this the first round. Best of luck to you with your surgery. My Dr said that the band failure rate was rising steadily & he is seeing 80% failure. Not good %.
