Type 1.5 diabetic, is it harder to loose weight than non diabetic?
I had posted this on the diabtes forum and had no replies so i am hoping to see if anyone has any thoughts. . . . . . . I was told that i have 1.5 diabetes at age 12. Now at 26, my bmi was 41.1, I had my surgery on 8-6-12. in the last week i had lost 14 pounds. I was wondering if that could just be water weight? I also have a under active thyroid, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Do you think it will be harder for me to loose weight or will i loose it at a pretty good pace like everyone else? I have tried diets and exercise in the past and had no luck with weight loss. Just hoping this is actual results and no****er. everytime i dieted it was water weight and as soon as i came off the diet. the 12 pounds i had lost and kept off for three months had returned in 2 days and all i did differently was switch from a 1200 calorie diet to a 1500 calorie diet.
Witgh any wt loss surgery, you need to remember that the surgery is only a tool towards wt loss. For long term results, putting diabetes in remission, lower bp, lowering cholesterol, etc. you need to modify your daily lifestyle. The surgery will help you lose wt, but will not keep it off forever--you have to change your habits to make the wt loss and it's benefits long term. DAVE

These are things I already know. This is why i took the step for weight loss surgery. A diet is nothing new for me. I have been trying to lose weight for 3 years now. Exercise about 5 times a week and yet the weight is still not coming off. I have changed my eating habits and exercise habits. Both combined did nothing to help me lose weight. This is why I am scared that this won't change anything. Or am I just thinking negatively. Hopefully i am worring over nothing. I mean it has only been a week since surgery. so I need to stay positive!!!

The weight will come off! Will it stay off, maybe. You will need to work twice as hard as you have alway did or even harder. The surgery is just a tool. And, yes the 14 lbs most likely is water weight.
Will you loose fast or slow? Hard to tell ..........I lost the first 80 pds. like a breeze the last 10 pds will not come off for the life of me. Will i gain weight back...........yes, if I don't work hard every day.

I'm a type 2 diabetic and have lost gradually. I'm happy with it since I am near my 1st anniversary and very close to my goal. My diabetes has greatly improved and that is because I have changed my menus. It all works together. No way of knowing how fast you will lose but exercise will help as well as following a strict diabetic food plan. The surgery helps you by reducing your capacity for food. Don't think about what you will be giving up, think of it as a new life style.
