5 days post op
Hi,
Well here I am, emotional, sore, gassy, all the normal stuff. evening of surgery was able to drink 2oz broth and 2oz jell-o, took me a couple of hours. Second day drank 1 1/2 protein shakes and got in about 40oz water. Third day 1st bowel movement which continued on the whole day and night. Fourth day couldn't get a protien shake down until 3pm tried to drink more at around 8pm but wasn't happening. Water has been ok. All the protein shakes, jell-o smell and taste terrible. I've tried soy, lactaid free, mixing with water and I gag. The only thing that sounds good is a scrambled egg. Has any one tried an egg this soon after surgery?

I wouldn't until your doc says you can. My doc instructed me to try eating a scrambled egg the night before my first post op visit

Hi Debbie,
No I didn't have an egg that soon , even a lightly cooked eggbeater. I am not sure it is critical that you get ALL protein right now , but fluid is a must and you seem to be doing well with that. Things change every day !!!
Before surgery I loved eggs and after it took me weeks before the thought of one didn't make me queasy.
What does your plan call for? I use the premium protein shakes from costco and sams the base is milk but I have never had an issue with it. I have never liked any of the powders.
It sounds like you really do have a handle on things even though it may not feel like right now. Keep trying because every day things will change.
Best wishes

I did, and I had no trouble at all with it, but my plan called for starting soft foods on Day 3 or 4. I would stick to your surgeon's plan. Just as an aside, even though a scrambled egg sounds good, some people find that eggs are very hard to tolerate early out.
