questions about pre-op diet
It not only varies by surgeon it can vary by patient. I asked my surgeon this question just yesterday (although I'm months and months away from even going through the approval process). Anyways, he said that not every patient requires it and some are able to eat very little (by way of solid food) and some must go on a full liquid type of diet with the weeks prior to the surgery.
Best of luck to you!!
I had a liver reduction diet for 3 to 4 months. It is basically no bread, rice, pasta, deep fried food, potatoes, sweets, no caffeine or carbonated beverages. You can eat meat and vegetables, dairy but no sweet or high fat cream items. Stop eating when you are full. I didn't have to count calories and that was entirely do able for me. I lost 35 lbs. I recommend it to everyone but, of course, talk to your doctor about it first.
Low carb is pretty typical.
Depends on the surgeon. Some do Optifast.
I had one friend that was basically told less than 20 grams of carbs per day.
We are not put on a pre-op diet, so it just depends on your place.
