Paleo diet

I've been doing some research and I think I'm going to try it. There are a lot of similarities between the RNY diet and it, but I feel the paleo may actually be more healthy.

Anyone else ever try this one?

This is the diet that my Doc recomends following once you reach the maintenance stage :) He is fit and healthy and has been on this "diet" since he was in his twenties. Basically, if a caveman couldn't have eaten it, then you don't eat it.  That is how he described it to me. I plan to adapt to it once I am finished with the weight loss phase after surgery. Best wishes in your journey and congratulations on your success so far :)

I've been slowly going over to it... I just never realized how many foods have corn anything in them. My boyfriend has been paleo for several years, after dropping 60 pounds he maintains with no real problems.  I'm going to cheat and keep rice as a grain, but that's about it.

I love the concept. I've been on it for days at a time...switching off with the all-sugar diet.

However, the nutrients in prehistoric, preagriculture foods, including meats, were different than modern nutrients. Also, paleolithic people were not necessarily optimally healthy. I believe it's healthy to take our vitamins, eat organic local foods as much as possible, and use modern sciency nutrition stuff along with the mastadon + berries + roots diet.

well hopefully the stores will begin to sell organic cage free saber tooth tigers as opposed the ones that have been injected with fillers and antibiotics. and forget about the wooly Mammoths they are so full of fat they will make you dump just by looking at them...LOL... Not knocking the diet just looking at why we had the Gastric Bypass in the first place so that diets will become a thing of the past and we will live a healthy lifestyle eating food low in fat and sugar. there is the maintenance. If you love telling yourself that you can have this but need to stay away from that then by all means diet. As for me I will maintain what I have now a balance of eating foods that won't make me sick and make me feel healthy...

LIFE IS HARD, BUT GIVING UP HAS NO REWARDS!!!

I most certainly don't eat a low fat diet and haven't done since my RNY 8.5 years ago!!!!!

Hrm, there seems to be a misconception here. It's not so much a diet as a nutritional outlook. It's not low fat anything. In fact it's pretty high fat and high caloric foods. There are plenty of natural sugars in paleo foods. Heck, I made a chocolate pudding last month.

Also, yes it does put animal organs and grass fed meats above normal store bought. I have no trouble finding grass fed and free range , no antibiotics or steroid meats at my natural whole foods.

Maybe I should put in a link for people to get a little education before they make uninformed comments that are more insulting than amusing?

If you look, my reply was NOT to you but to the post above mine who said we have to be on a low fat, low sugar diet ...

Maybe people (YOU) should look before they suggest that people get an education - I am well aware of what a Paleo Diet is and I have a nutrition component in my degree.

If HE wants to feel insulted, he's welcome - you need to get that flipping great chip off your shoulder about me!

You're welcome!
