Meniere's Disease and RNY
My surgery was October 29, and I wonder if anyone knows if there is a change in an RNY patient's sodium up-take that would be similar to the alcohol up-take issue. Does a small amount of sodium taken in result in too much sodium consumed? I have had more dizzy spells since the surgery than in a long time.
My doctors (bi-pass & PCP) decided it would be ok to go back on the water pills as long as the dizziness wasn't from dehydration. It is not. I do not have an ear infection, I have lost 60 pounds and cannot/do not consume the amount of sodium that I did before the surgery.
I start taking the pills today, but I thought someone here may know about the sodium.
Any chance it could be low blood pressure? I have intermittent light headed/ dizzy moments. Frequently when standing after squatting or bending down, but sometimes just out of the blue. I drink a Powerade zero for a little added sodium (and potassium) which has helped some. I still need to be careful bending over, etc. I never had high blood pressure before. I drink plenty of fluids, and don't eat much sodium other than what is naturally in foods.
If you have Meniere's Disease, are you also experiencing greater tinnitus or hearing loss as well? More fullness?
What does it mean when he says its not infected but there's fluid behind there? Does he mean there's still water in there from my shower? I didn't think you could see "fluid" behind an ear drum. Maybe I took that all wrong.
I have Meniere's and my surgery was 9-12-12. Actually I've had less problems with the Meniere's since surgery than before. Perhaps it's because the sheer lowering of food intake makes the salt intake less in general. I've only had to take my Diazepam twice since surgery and before surgery it was multiple times a week.
I did have surgery on my inner ear in 2001 for the Meniere's so mine was basically under control as long as I had low sodium and no caffeine. I am starting to get the whole low blood pressure thing now, so I get some dizziness when standing, but definitely not from the Meniere's. The only Meniere's thing I really have now is that looking at patterns of any sort really throws me for a loop. And of course any rapid movement.
