No more weight loss after 6 months?
Someone told me that their doctor said she would not lose anymore weight after 6 months. He told her it was possible but not likely. I said that I have never heard that and then someone else said that she quit losing at 6 months... REALLY? IS THIS TRUE??!! I'm not done yet! I'm at 5 months right now. I thought we had 12-18 months. Someone fill me in here... eeek!
It would be very unusual to stop losing at just six months.
You have forever to keep losing. You'll keep losing as long as you take in fewer calories than you burn. Many people lose for 18 months or more but there is deadline at which time weight loss just automatically stops no matter what you do.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
It varies of course ... I finished losing weight at just over six months because I had lost 120lb and was below goal - others take a year to 2 years. It does slow down at 6 months and again at 12 and 18 months. It's why we all recommend that people do the most they can to maximise their weight loss in the honeymoon period, which is considered to be 18 months or so.
I'm sure your friend misunderstood her doctor and he was in fact giving her the advice I have just given you.
