I started "mush" in the hospital. I think it all depends on your surgeon and his/her plan. Good luck! I hope you get something soon.

No liquid diet with our surgeon.  Chicken, veggies, fruits, yogurt, just no pasta bread or rice.  Then nothing to eat or drink after midnight for the surgery the next day.  Really grateful I didn't have to do this type of diet that so many surgeons seem to have patients do.   Jane

My surgery is tomorrow, and if everything is OK with the upper GI, they move you to pureed foods from days 3-14.

My surgery is tomorrow, too! According to the plan I can start (limited) pureed food the day after surgery.

My surgeon had her patients do one day of clear liquids, one day of full liquids, and then soft foods on Day Three. I had open surgery so was in the hospital for 4 days, but had scrambled eggs, yogurt, and cream of wheat before I left the hospital.  (she did so because 1) there is no medical reason not to start soft foods right away, and 2) she found that patients had more trouble eating solid food again after a long period of liquids and purées).  After doing a liquid diet a number of years ago (and regaining even the little bit of weight I lost), I wouldn't have used a surgeon *****quired extended liquids... But that's just me!

I think everyone's surgeon is different. I had three days of clear liquids and then ten days of creamy liquids, like cream of chicken, cream of broccoli and my all time favorite, cream of mushroom (yuck! I said that total sarcasm.) I called the cream of crap stage. Hated it.
