Exercise and dizziness

Well I started with a personal trainer this morning.   It has been years since I truly did more than walk for exercise.    I got dizzy several times.   He saw me struggling and scaled down the work out and I took longer rest in between each exercise to help get through it.   He feels like it is lack of "fuel" because of the limited diet we are on.    He normally plans his clients meals to complement his work outs but with me - he can't.   I will be 8 weeks out from surgery tomorrow.

Any suggestions on what I can eat or drink prior to the work out to "fuel me"?  I tried a protein drink today but it did not do anything but make my tummy upset.

30-45 mins before my workouts i do Natural Peanut Butter with 3 crackers, or half an apple, Sometimes I do a handful of almonds instead. Then I tend to take a drink of water before I start then nothing again till I am done with my run. I run 1.5miles every day, plus weights. So I will drink water again after i run. If i dont I see spots and start to feel light headed.

You want to get some complex carbs before your workout.  Maybe 1/2 banana 30 minutes before.  Then take your protein drink after to help muscle recovery.  Also, remember to get enough water.  Dehydration can cause dizziness as well.  You should be getting 64 oz. miniimum water per day.  Being only 8 weeks post-op can be a challenge getting enough****er.  Just keep a water bottle in your hand all day and sip continuously (except 30 minutes before, during, and after eating).

Good luck!

Mike hit the nail on the head.

My husband is a weight lifter - and has to follow the regimen above for success. The WATER is crucial as well.

I was fine with banana at 8 weeks, but of course every plan is different.

Carb before - for energy and protein after (and soon after)!!
