Ok, so I'm 4 days out from surgery and I'm having a hard time figuring out a schedule to get everything in. I'm supposed to drink 3 shakes a day, take a multi-vitamin, calcium, and b12, and also manage 64 oz of fluids per day! How has everyone else managed to keep up?

I am 6 days out and trying my best to get it all in as well. I am eating my meals and immediately I time 30 minutes. That is when I drink my shake. I alternate between sipping on the shake and water. I continue this throughout the entire day. I also take a multi with my calcium and b12 in the morning. Lunch is my iron supplement. Dinner is my multi and calcium. I know I am just out but I seem to be finding a schedule that works for me. I'm sure you will find a schedule for you too. Just remember to drink your water!!! Keeps you hydrated and can stop us rny patients from developing kidney stones. All the best to you

I took my vits in the morning first thing. Multi and B-12. then later breakfast. Calcium was with lunch, dinner and bedtime,(can't take that with the others and it has to be spread out throughout the day). don't take anything after the shake as it will be washed out with the liquid. Same with water. Take whatever you need first, let it sit for a while then have your liquid-meal or water. You'll get a pattern soon and it will be easy to follow.

Well, your shakes are liquids, right?  So if you drink three of them, and if they are eight ounces each, that's 24 oz of your liquids in.

I do this for a vitamin schedule:

Breakfast - multi, 500 mg calcium citrate, B12

Lunch- 500 mg calcium citrate

Dinner - multi, 500 mg calcium citrate

Bedtime - iron

If you do your three shakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, that's 24 oz of fluids.  then you sip some other liquids in between there.

I am not really a good example but i take 4 optisource vitamins/day me switching, etc will depend upon my first lab work results should be in any day now. I am also getting maybe only 40oz of fluid/day i eat most as far as protein goes.. anywhere from 70-90g per day i also still supplement with 1 shake/day sometimes. I'm also 4 months post-op though on Tues it's tough this early out heck i am like i said almost 4 months out and i still have a hard time with fluids especially. Meds i recommend a weekly am/pm pill container. I refill mine once a week with morning and evening medicines so it's all set in there for me i just have to take it. I stopped one med with permission from my doctor but have now added biotin.

It took me a few weeks to get all protein, liquids and vitamins in without feeling terribly ill. Thankfully I had a VERY high calcium number pre-op, so a few days of not taking it was not going to harm me. I did get a b-12 that is sublinqual and it was one less thing to swallow.

I buy a 1,000 mg calcium pill and break it in half, so I am taking 2K a day. I was taking 4K a day at first, not realizing the absorption maxed at 500mg.

Order of importance at this stage:  fluid,  (water) shakes, vitamins.  Plenty of people end up in the ER because of dehydration but they don't get protein or vitamin deficiencies for months or years!!!!

I was having the same problem as you.  The only difference was I had my  surgery back in 2004.  But just now getting back on track to losing again.  I asked my doctor how to get all the required things in.  He gave me a schedule to follow.  I'll write it below.  Keep in mind you may change times depending on when you actually get up and go to bed.  But it's just an idea to follow.

6:00 - 6:30 a.m. BEVERAGE (water or a hot drink), MULTIVITAMIN WITH IRON, B12

Breakfast at 7:00-7:20 PROTEIN (10-15 GRAMS)

Beverage from 7:50-9:00 Water can increase protein by adding

Snack 9:30-10:50 PROTEIN SNACK (10-15 GRAMS), Calcium Citrate + D3

Beverage 11:20-12:00 water and can increase protein by adding

Lunch 12:30-12:50 PROTEIN (10-15 grams), Calcium Citrate + D3

Beverage 1:20-3:00 Water and can increase protein

Snack 3:30-3:50 PROTEIN SNACK (10-15 GRAMS)

Beverage 4:20-5:30 WATER and can increase protein

Dinner 6:00-6:20 PROTEIN (10-15 grams), Calcium Citrate +D3

Beverage 6:50-7:30 WATER and can increase protein

Snack 8:00-8:20 Protein (10-15 grams), Multivitamin

Beverage WATER and can increase protein if needed

*Eat PROTEIN first (now and always), Protein, Vegetable, Fruit, then starches

Hope this might help someone.

Julie

*I meant to put on the BEVERAGE part that you can add you protein to your water or drink something like Crystal Light with Protein if you don't like water.  He also listed Isopure to drink too.
