Gulp/Straws

I figured out today I can gulp fluids again!  WOO HOO!  This will make getting the fluids in a lot easier.  I can take a good 3 swallows consecutively with no issue.  When did you start using straw again?  I'm going back to work Monday and using a straw at work is so much easier.  Is this another surgeon preference thing?  Is there any factual medical reason why I cant use a straw?

My surgeon says "no straws ever again."  To which I say "Phooey!"  It's the only rule I didn't follow though.  Straws are my friend.  I get in much more water daily when it's in my cute covered cups w/ straws.  I don't suck in air, or get gassy.  So, I'm still unsure how the "no straw" issue holds up under the scrutiny.

My surgeon says no to straws to. I drink everything out of straws even coffee. This is going to be a challenge.

I too rejected the "no straw thing" since it didn't create excess gas in me and was CRUCIAL for me to bypass my thrush-filled tongue to get in my liquids & protein shakes in the first month....

My surgeon says NO STRAWS too, but I'm wondering why?  I think I remember something about swallowing air but I don't think that is possible.  And the amount of air cant be large enough to fill me up if it is possible.  Poet Kelly???

My surgeon is VERY pro straw! He thinks it makes gets fluids in easier and I would say I am proof of that. I have had no trouble getting them in and sip a whole lot!

My surgeon says it depends on the person and I think he is right. I tend to gulp more air without a straw. I do much better with my bendy straw lol.

Hi everyone,

To drink or not to drink with a straw? Well I am finding that i am in taking more air without straws!! I just had surgery and every time i drink water, i get gassy. I think i am going to use the straw that came with my water bottle to see how that is for me.  to me being to be told to never drink from a straw again is unrealistic
