Pregnancy
I know there are a few pregnancy after WLS groups but I dont see much activity on them. I am only 7 months post op but my husband and I would like to start trying as soon as 18 months post op comes around. Just looking for any advice, possible complications (Regarding the WLS) etc. And, has anyone gotten pregnant before 18 months post op and still maintained their weight loss? I am about 30 pounds from goal
It's not about maintaining your weight loss, it's about being a healthy vessel for your child. A fetus is a parasite and will do just fine - you, probably not so much!
There are tons of people who get pregnant within months of their surgery and carry successfully, but the advice to wait is there for a reason. It's to give you a chance to lose all your excess weight, get into maintenance and to make sure all your vitamins and minerals are in a good place.
ETA: I haven't had a child after WLS but I am a midwife (not currently practising)

The are parasites after they are born, too, lol.
I would not even CONSIDER it until at least 18 months post-op if I were thinking of another child. Which, let me be emphatic here (Lord hear me now!) I do NOT! ;)

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
No advice, but I'm in the same boat, so I'll be watching with interest!
My journey: http://avabyrd.wordpress.com/
I am not married and do not plan to have a child anytime soon but when I was pre op I was concerned how the surgery would implicate when I decided to have kids so I asked my doctor about it. He told me that the ideal would be to wait 2 years until trying... Just sharing what my doctor told me, hope it helps
My wife. who is going to have surgery in a few weeks, and I are in the same boat. She discussed the subject at length with one of the doctors and was told that the biggest thing is that an early pregnancy requires extra supervision and monitoring of vitamin levels, but it can be managed safely. It is, however, best to wait a while. They recommended that my wife go on contraceptives for at least a year post surgery.
I waited 12 months before I started trying, and in my 14th month after surgery I got pregnant. I'm 35 weeks right now. I have only gained 12 lbs throughout the whole pregnancy and my baby has grown and developed just fine. I was really scared at first, but I realized that having a baby post WLS was waaaaaay healthier than having a baby while morbidly obese!!!
