OT: NEW KITTY! Pics inside.
Ok so, I had this entire post written out and pictures posted and the kitten decided to jump on my keyboard and went back several pages and I lost the entire post! Anyway, my boyfriend and I adopted a new kitty. His name is Binx but we call him Binxy. He's adorable and I love him! Last night I was trying to do school work and he was climbing all over me like a nut job so I got this brilliant idea and this is how it turned out:
This is over 4 hours. I managed to get all my work done without being interrupted!
Also, if anyone has tips on bringing a kitten into a house with two grown cats let me know. My kitties are adjusting quite well, faster than I expected, but if anyone has any advice I welcome it since I've never done this before. My girls are sisters and have been together since day one.
I'm a volunteer adoption counselor at an animal shelter and we always advise to keep them apart for as long as possible so the kitten gets comfortable in the new surroundings and to try to make any meeting organic and not forced ...
Binx is very sweet and it's so nice that you adopted a black kitten. We have over 600 cats and kittens in our shelter in the moment and despite having special offers (BOGO, free if they're over a year old etc), we get so few adopted out - particularly black kittens/cats because of stupid superstitions!

My blog about my journey - Up From Under
Oohhh, how cute! Most of the time, when I've brought in a new kitten or cat, the older ones got used to the newbie pretty quickly. Sometimes quicker than others. I would make sure to give the older ones plenty of attention. Sometimes an older cat that is mad about a new cat will pee on stuff, like once I got a new cat and the old cat didn't like the new cat sleeping in the guest bed even though he never slept there himself, so he took to peeing on the bed. I ended up keeping the door to the guest room closed for about a month, and by then they were good buddies, so I opened the door again and there was no more peeing on the bed. I let them hiss at each other and stuff, as long as they aren't actually fighting and hurting each other. Usually one of the older cats will announce that he is the boss of the house and usually the new cat agrees to that arrangement, and then they at least tolerate each other OK. I would make sure there are at least two litter boxes, so the old cats can't keep the new cat from getting to the box, and at least two water dishes, so the old cats can't block the new cat from getting to the water.
