I am trying to imagine driving from Texas, around California for a few weeks, and then back home.  It seems very difficult to find appropriate foods on the road.  Would I need to rely on protein drinks?  I know Disney will cook it however I need, but the san diego zoo probally has fast food.  We will be staying at hotels, most only with breakfast buffets. Any advice is welcome.

No reason why you are not eating perfectly normally at 6 months ...   It may take some adaptation, but for a road trip, I always do grocery shopping before hand and put a cooler on the back seat with appropriate food in it.

I doubt I've ever been anywhere that I can't find "something" to eat ...

I am 7 months out and agree-there is no where I cannot go and find appropriate foods. If jerky works for you (it does not for me) that is a good one to keep on hand. My husband eats it no problem. I buy him 100 calorie packs at CVS and he'll have one as needed. But really, the choices are pretty amazing out there.

Shou'ldn't be too bad. I travel with cheese sticks (can buy at any convenience store) and beef jerky. Protein drinks will hold you over. Breakfast buffets are carb loaded - bring your own lowfat, sugar free

yogurt. Food from the night before can be reheated inthe morning for breakfast. Make sure you get in enough water - where you're going and doing as much walking as you will do you'll need

water and more water. Carry a big bottle with you and buy when you run out.  Have fun!

i went on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Bahama and Mexico at 6 months out. There was plenty to eat even on the islands. At that point you should know well what your tummy will tolerate. I did have some turkey that must have been too dry for me and I laid down for 30 mins one day but otherwise everything was fine. I just ordered and ate the meat and gave someone else in the family the rest of what I ordered.

I'm only about 2.5 months out but if I'm in a bind... I try to stick to either chili at Wendy's or some sort of sushi with little to no rice (like a tartar or sashimi)

As the others have said, by 6 months out you should be eating very normally  You certainly would NOT have to rely on protein shakes while traveling!  Even fast food places have healthier choices (grilled chicken sandwich (which you can eat without the bread), chili, etc.).

Agree with other posters....I am often on public transit all day, which means taking breakfast, lunch and dinner with me when i leave the house. I take things like one packet of unjury (sometimes when food does not agree with me I use a shake)  a couple of protein bars, prepackaged no sugar free applesauce, nuts, cheese sticks, make instant oatmeal at home by putiing DRY minute oatmeal in a blender....take that in a container and just add ho****er when I get there....ready to eat tuna packets, boiled eggs, humus.. small containers of fat free cottage cheese, ..I went on a road trip at 4 months out and had a cooler filled with stuff I could eat..never ate out once. Small box of milk, etc...cut fresh veggies....I tried some "non RNY yogurt" before I left home because I figured if I was in a hotel and got stuck eating something it might be that...It was "okay" i am not a dumper...wouldn't make a lifestyle choice out of sugar yogurt but once is not going to kill me....and I really would make other choices most of the time, and not plan to blow my food plan the entire trip, but in a pinch, you know?  If your hotel has a microwave in it it's awesome because it's possible to even go to a grocery store and get a steak,,,,2 min max per side  (it's almost a mortal sin to microwave steak, but hey.....) have fun on your trip...live the life you hoped you could have after surgery.
