I thought it was a myth!
I was always a bit skeptical when I read that upping your protein could help break a plateau or jump start weigh loss again for those who are still in the losing phase of their weight-loss journey.
I was starting to stall at 8 months out, never drinking any protein shakes nor eating much protein. I never took in many carbs at all, so I didn't blame that for my stalling. So, I was getting frustrated and feeling like a failure. I decided to take in the recommended grams of protein a day.
My first day, I had all protein, with the exception of other nutrients that are in lean pork chops. I didn't snack, and I stayed hydrated. The next morning I hopped on the scale and to my surprise, I had lost nearly 2 pounds.
I repeated the same thing on the second day, and that following morning I had lost an additional 1.5 pounds.
I have been eating this same pattern for nearly a week, with success. I have lost at least a pound every single day.
I now drink an EAS AdvantEDGE (Low carb/Low sugar/ Lower calorie) Protein shake as a snack/ or meal replacement so I don't become so tired of meats, chicken and fish.
I'm usually a skeptical person, you have to show me that something works for me to believe it, and since I have personally experienced success with this, I believe it.
If protein shakes were truly this magical - we would have never had to have WLS - we could have done it just by drinking shakes!!!
Congratulations on breaking your stall, *however* you believe you did it
Try to remember that this is a lifelong commitment to eating right and try to resist the slip/diet/slip/diet rollercoaster this surgery should have replaced.

I don't mean this to sound snarky, but if you weren't eating much protein and weren't eating many carbs, exactly what WERE you eating... all fat?!? Once you eliminate carbs and protein, that's all that is left....

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Great! And I'm going to count the collagen in the jello toward my protein too!

I regret posting this now, everyone seems to never just read something, rather, they want to correct what you wrote or post their opinions. I was just sharing MY EXPERIENCE!
To answer your question, I was eating mainly salads, I did not eat much fat at all. I eat a lot of vegetables and eggs. The things that I did eat, aside from the two I just listed were fat-free products.
And THIS is exactly why *some people* feel obliged to post when they see something that is not based in science/fact - because some newbies will read your "experience" and think that it is a good idea ...
I would say that most veterans posts are debunking myths and trying to offer good, science based advice to steer people into a safe, productive weight loss journey - not making the mistakes either we have made or that we have seen time and time again in the years we have been here.
Having said all that - you are free to post whatever you want - just as others are free to comment. As long as a post is not against TOS, this forum is public and all and every opinions are likely to be posted if you put a thread out there.
It's not personal - even though it may feel that way!
