Question about time of loss

I had the sleeve but my best friend had bypass. She has lost 138 lbs in 7 1/2 months. She started this journey at 451 but the surgeons PA is saying she isnt losing enough fast enough. So my question is for the ones who has a lot to lose, How fast are you losing?
SHE IS NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW MUCH SHE LOST, SHE IS ESTATIC ABOUT HER LOSS, BUT WANTS TO MAKE SURE SHE IS ON TRACK.
My surgeon expects 30% ewl by 3 months, 50% ewl by 6 months, 75% by 12 months, 100% loss by 18 months.
Depending on what would be your friends normal bmi, let's guess 151, so she has 300 pounds EW. At 6 months he would expect -150 to be on track. So at 138 she would be behind at 7.5 months.
Im not sure if that is realistic for someone with a high starting weight or not.
I would suggest asking this question on the over 50 bmi board, they might have better insight on what is realistic for someone with a high starting weight.
Regardless, 138 is an amazing and fantastic loss and she should be so proud!

She was very proud until the PA made her feel like she wasnt doing well. her surgeons goal for her is 175 but i think 150ish is what the bmi chart wants. Thank you so much for your response. :-)
I started a weight loss program in August 2013 at 405#. The BMI charts would say 220# is my normal weight, so I had 185# of excess weight.
I lost 52# pre-op over 5 months and have lost about 70# since surgery for a total of 120#. I'm 4 months out of surgery and have averaged just under 20 pounds a month (post-op in 4 months).
My doctor is very pleased with my progress so far and so am I.
Your friend appears to have lost an avg. of 18# a month - that's better than me, so from my measures, she is doing fine and on track. But that's just my opinion using some quick math. If she feels good and is sticking to the plan, I would say she is on track based on the info you shared.

Thank you! Congrats on such amazing success this far. You are doing great!!!
I know after reading these post she will feel better. He made her feel as if she was failing and wasnt losing enough but any given day retains a lot of fluid due to lymphadema. she sticks to the plan 100% of the time because her stomach is so sensitive she stil cant eat anything. She can handle eggs cheese salad and beans if its anything else shes getting sick. :-/
I experienced something similar at 6 months out. At that appointment I had lost 146lbs and the surgeon and I got into a huge fight when he called my weight loss mediocre. Everyone loses differently.
I just had my 1 year appointment and am down 193lbs total, and the nurse and nut were very happy. They told me that I am at 62.7% and they think that is great. It might take me another year to get to my goal, or it might come sooner. However, I think it is ridiculous when those who are supposed to encourage you do just the opposite. I have followed my program strictly without straying, and if your friend is doing this, then the weight will come off the way it is supposed to and what is best for her.
