Another newbie question about traveling!

So I am traveling about 4 months after surgery. I will be on solid foods by that point, yay! So I have traveling questions. The flight is about 4 hours to the Dominican. The flight does not offer "food", just the normal cookies and pretzel and soda and water. Do I try to get deli meat or try to find acceptable protein bars at the airport? Any other ideas?? The hotel has good and bad reviews. The bad always say the food is bad and either very sick from it (gastro) or food poisoning. Scary stuff!! Do I think we will have issues, no, but.....just in case, how do you deal with it?? Anyone with traveling out of the country experience and being a newbie with food have advice would be awesome!

Not sure I would have booked somewhere with such bad reviews, but oh well!

I wouldn't eat on a 4 hour flight personally, I find the change in cabin pressure stops me feeling hungry.   My recommendation would be to eat at the airport and take a protein bar or small pack of nuts to eat if you feel you need to.

The only recommendation for the hotel food would be to avoid salads or unpeeled fruit, go to the buffet as soon as it opens and avoid seafood - normal common sense precautions!

The hotel has good and bad reviews as do all of them. Trip advisor ranks it well. I just worry about everything in general, so having some other peoples thought and experiences help!

there should be no reason why you cannot take protein bars, prepackaged nuts, PB3 in your carry on.

Google the world according to eggface,  I know she has a blog about traveling and how she handled it.

you can also get prepackaged premeasured protein powder.

I did not know you could take protein powder like that on your carry on. I was wanting something for the duration of the trip too, just in case! So if I can get protein powder with me I should be good! Yay! Little things make me happy.

I recently traveled to Jamaica and stayed at an all-inclusive.  I took Quest bars, nuts, and water for the plane ride.  I stashed additional bars, snacks, and some Ready-to-drink shakes in my luggage.  As for the food, I usually ordered protein heavy and made sure everything was cooked a little more well done than I would in the states.  I made sure to stay away from raw fish and sugary alcohol and I was good.  I had a bit looser stool than normal but no gastro issues :)

You can always bring tuna packets.

Banded 12/18/08.  Band removed and revision to RNY on 12/15/14.
