Possible internal hernia, gained 75 pounds in 9 months!

I went to the hospital in May with severe pain in my stomach, especially under my left rib cage. They admitted me and although finding a "moderate gastric fistula & intersusseption at my "Y" they chose to do nothing about it. I've gained 75 pounds, other health problems out of control (migraines, started having seizures again, severe osteoarthritis in hips, lumbar, cervical spine & shoulder) and my mental health has suffered.

Mind you, I've been at goal weight for 3 years, 4.5 years of from surgery. I'm angry! Why did they let me go so long?

At my yearly follow up, I was scheduled for a complete upper GI. They found nothing. Tomorrow I go on for the barium swallow test. If nothing there, they're going to do a lap exploratory. I really can't wait.

I've been constipated since I was a baby, on stool softeners twice a day since my surgery in 2011. With all this pain all over my body... Idk what's what. I just want them to find it and fix it. Idc what they have to do to me!

A fistula is a big deal. Find a better doctor, and get it fixed.

I am thinking you have experience with this. Does it make you gain weight? I honestly don't know. They think I have an internal hernia too where my intestines have looped over themselves at the Y.

Technically, eating more is the only thing that can MAKE you gain weight.

A fistula ALLOWS you to eat more. The passage into your old, large stomach means you can fit more in without getting full. If the fistula gets large enough, it's like you never had surgery. And it can cause other problems as well.

But, it doesn't make you put more into your mouth to begin with. That part of it we can still control.

Okay, makes sense. My pouch (as indicated from my scope & I got to see it today on the X rays!), fortunately looks small and just as it should be. I'm excited about that. I figured they would find it stretched out & whatnot, in addition to the other problems. Thank you for your wisdom & help!

They did find one, said it was small. I see my surgeon Wednesday for the fourth time in a many weeks- I'm on top of it!
