Yeah...definitely not giving up. Just a bump in the road. Hell, I have a lease here till the end of March 2010, and I just hope I can find a job.
Let's just say that there seems to be far more jobs (in fields I'm actually interested in) here in NYC rather than back home at NC.

Hello my OHers. Y'all may not know me, or remember me, but I'm back on here, mainly for non-surgical reasons. Not that I don't need the support (and push) to get past my idiocy and this stall. But, more for emotional support otherwise.
In February, I was hired for an open-ended/temp type of internship. I went to school for apparel and fabric design, and this was the first paying opportunity, so I ran with it. Ran with it meaning moved to New York! I've been working there since, knowing I need to restart the actual job hunt and somewhat hoping they might have a job for me.
Well, today, I was let go.
A little before noon, (my immediate boss) Tom asked me to follow him down the hall. For some reason, as soon as he said that, my stomach dropped. We went all the way across the office to a private room with basically the guy in charge of doing this. The short story: corporate restructuring. Not having the work load really necessary to keep another intern. Tom had no choice in the matter, and didn't want to lose me. He just found out late Friday afternoon, and I found out today. I got a live check for the timesheet I just turned in this morning, and voila, I was out the door.
On the bright side? Tom basically guaranteed me a fantastic reference, and he told me to email him my resume asap, that he would get it out to everyone he could. I just hate that I didn't really get to say bye to anyone or get any sort of general recognition that I was leaving. It's stupid, but damn, it sucks. Even the younger Cincinnati co-ops that were here before got that.
I know it's probably immature to do so, but I'm holding off on telling the parents or brother. I know, I know, but I just... Need some time to breathe. I have enough for July and August rent and tight living expenses.
I've been blogging about the job and stuff, and I feel like I totally predicted the future a few weeks ago. And I really hate myself for not restarting the job hunt yet. It's just been a tough day round here.

And I'm such a kitchen gadget fan, but I have to resist the temptation to buy everything I want. Even with this large kitchen I have (a rarity here in the city), we have no storage space. Nor do I have the money! But your doughnuts looked especially tempting, oh man.

does anyone have ideas for quick and easy, high protein warm breakfast ideas? things i can make ahead or make the morning of?
i'm a big fan of greek yogurt and fruit in the morning, but since it's so cold here in NY, i'm looking for some options besides oatmeal and eggs. eggs get old, fast, and oatmeal is a tad carby. i'm sort of out of ideas, so OH help me out!

Kelly,
Thanks for the idea. My mom is driving up, I'm riding (I have a whole history with driving/not driving, etc). So since she's the only driver and it's a 10-14 hr trip, we're trying not to make many stops. We already know it's going to be a long two days - since she's the only driver and we're going to have a small Uhaul to unload once we get there, we're splitting it into two days. So, the fewer stops, the better!

Wow, Shari, this looks incredible!
Um, I need a crepe master in my kitchen! I don't know if I'd be able to make such beautiful, thin crepes.
And oh geez, the possibilities. Even for enchiladas and taco casseroles, you could throw in a bit of cornmeal to add the corniness akin to corn tortillas.
OM NOM NOM.

I didn't really have noticable/recurring back pain before the surgery. But I notice more back pain now, actually, if I'm laying a certain way. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I do notice the pain.

Thanks, Jenny! It's so weird to have a booty but still have the pain. It can get so uncomfortable even moving to reposition is painful. If my job seems like it's sitting heavy - highly doubtful as an intern - I'll have to take that with me to work.

Topic: RE: A pain in my BUTT!
Okay, so plenty of people have talked about having a sore behind after losing weight. Well, I definitely have that issue. Even at 200+ lbs still, my butt/tailbone gets incredibly sore even on a comfy couch, mattress, etc. This can happen at 1 hr into sitting.
Weeeell, I'm moving to New York this week, and I'll be on a 10-14 hr ride in a cargo van/truck. I'm quite concerned about what to do to alleviate the butt pain, because I can only shift in my seat so much. My mother suggests getting one of those doughnut pillows to sit on. Has anyone tried that, or any other cushions do the trick?
Sorry I've been sort of MIA on OH lately. I graduated from college and now I'm back home. Still job hunting but I found a temporary paid internship in NYC, so I'm packing up and moving!

Hey Cleo,
I took a weight training class at college during the fall semester, and we were taught a lot about designing a workout, how the body works, etc etc etc. It was a pretty awesome class (and all females, taught by a female teacher/coach). My best estimate is you worked mucles you honestly hadn't in a while. If 30 minutes on the elliptical at full resistance is no challenge, it's either time to try a new cardio workout, or throw some more weight training into your routine. You specifically worked out some major muscle groups with the squats, lifts, lunges, etc and basically your body responded.
The soreness is good. Even my coach, who's pretty built (but still looks feminine) said she's sore when she works out hard. And that's how you tone up and give yourself more defined muscles - you have to overload the muscles. Overload = soreness.

As for myself....yesterday was my one year surgiversary, but November has been a horrible, no-good month for my eating. Between the stress of school, my birthday, Thanksgiving, and other lovely events throughout the month, blah I think I'm up.
My lowest from 11/5 is still 215, but I think I'm technically up a few pounds at the moment. And getting back on track is difficult as hell right now.

Topic: RE: One Year Surgiversary! Holy crap!
So one year ago today, December 3rd, 2007, I was laying in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, feeling bloated as all hell, and at least 322 lbs.
Today, December 3rd, 2008, I'm down to around 215lbs. This year has flown by faster than I could have ever imagined.
Not to make this celebration a bummer, I don't feel like I've truly changed my ways from pre-op (especially when I look at my horrible eating this past month), but I am realizing it. I'm trying to stop it, and get back on track, so it's a bit depressing, that a year later, I'm still having these same issues. But, I realize so much of this is a head game, and I'm trying. Well, trying to try!
But really...how can 365 days go by so fast?!

Topic: RE: protein pancake?
Eggface also has a great cottage cheese pancake recipe
1/2 cup Cottage Cheese
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons Whole Wheat Flour (I use Arrowhead Mills Multigrain Pancake Mix)
1 Tablespoon Sugar Free Pudding Mix, dry (vanilla, lemon, banana, chocolate, whatever flavor you want depending on your mood.)
She's done this pancake a million different ways with different toppings, so it's always worth checking out!
Also, if you want to up the protein even more, you could add a scoop of protein powder into the mix. You might have to thin it out with a bit of milk, but it'd make it even more protein-hearty!

I had one while in surgery ONLY. They put it in after I was knocked out and took it out before I woke up... The doctor and nurses wanted me up and walking around as much as possible, so having to go to the bathroom would at least be one way to make you get up. (Although I didn't pee until midnight, and I had surgery early that morning. It was almost a cause for alarm.)

Ooooh, that stuff sounds scary good. I'm very tempted to whip some up, but knowing my love of Cool Whip (and lack of control when it comes to stuff like this), I may resist the temptation.
Has anyone tried putting protein powder in the mix? I recently tried the BSN dessert proteins, and at least in baking, I can stand it. So I'm curious about it in this.

Depending on how things are timed, 1 more multivitamin before bed.
I have an option to set alarms on my cell phone, and I keep my phone on vibrate, so I set it for every 2 hours, more as a visual reminder than anything else. Having to take vitamins is far easier than taking insulin, glucophage, amaryl, etc etc etc I was taking pre-op as a diabetic.
