My doctor told me to do a few ten days after surgery - not many just a couple a day then as I got stronger to increase.  He wanted me into light eights and aerobics as well by second week post op.

I would start with assisted situps first- let your arms help you pull up until you get the abdominable strength to do it alone.

I still only due two a day (full situps) one in morning and one in evening- no arms on my bed. Next week I will go to four.

They really helped me with gas issues!
