WALKING THE DAY OF SURGERY

in one word WALKKKKKKKK!!!! Day of surgery if you can, in the middle of the night, around your bed, out in the hallway with someone pushing a wheelchair behind you, any way you can.  The gas pains in your shoulders (or at least in mine) were EXCRUCIATING!  It felt like I was  having a heart attack and if I had known I sure would have walked instead of sleep!  I promise you won't regret it.  Even the day after, and every day, if you have any gas problems and I still do 7 days post-op I get my shoes on and go for a walk....every step HELPS!

I had really bad pain in my armpits. I must say that walking was fantastic for me. All my pain was gone by 4th day post-op.

My dr had my ass up and walking within hours of surgery! I thought he was crazy, but I had no gas issues so maybe he knows what he's doing LOL!

Amen to that sister!  Best advise ever on OH was to walk and sip constantly.

My butt was up and around as soon as I was awake! I woke up for a bit at first, then passed out from the pain drugs. Woke up again and figured I'd try to go to the bathroom and then thought "Well, I'm already up, might as well go!" Once I was up I was up as often as possible. I didn't sleep at all that night because of the machine they had me hooked up to that would beep as soon as I started to, so I walked through the night. The nurses gave me a standing ovation and the physical therapy lady couldn't believe I had walked so much before she came to see me!

My doctor has ALREADY told me that if he doesn't hear that I'm walking or walked after surgery, he WILL NOT release me! So, I'm praying that after my surgery, I'm able to WALK asap!!! LOL!!!
