Short Term Disability - Self Employed?

I know some people have had thier STD insurance cover bariatric surgery, but my husband and I are both self employed. It seems like everywhere I look, STD is only offered thru an employer.

Does anyone know of a STD plan that is available directly to the subscriber? My husband is getting surgery too, and I would be nice to get something back. Thanks!

when your self-employed there is a way to do that and you have to already be sending them quarterly payments (IRS).  Call and talk to them about paying out quarterly and what the benefits are..

Are you refering to Social Security Disability, or an employer paid program such as AFLAC?

Some insurance carriers write individual disability policies (similary to employer/group insurance.) check with Unum

As I have discovered, short term disability is ONLY available thru employers. Long Term, and obviously SS is different.

So thanks for the help! If you have it, keep it - LOL!
