Could someone please explain to me why I have to take calcium citrate and not calcium carbonate. I have to have chewable and the only calcium citrate chewables I can find are these disgusting wafers. It almost made me puke when I ate one. So, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get chewable calcium citrate that doesn't taste like **it.

Okay, here's a link to a site that explains the difference. www.advancedhealthplan.com/Calcium_Citrate.html
Basically, citrate absorbs much better than carbonate and carbonate has an even chalkier texture (think of TUMS).
Bariatric Advantage has calcium citrate chews that are really good. They aren't cheap, but they are like candy.
Hope that helps.

I have the chewy ones that are kind of like candy.  Butterscotch and chocolate are the two flavors I get.  I really like them and feel like I'm getting a bit of a treat twice a day when I take them.

These are from Maxx Muscle.  Bariatric Advantage by Metagenics.

I chew them in multiple bites so they are not hard to chew up or for my stomach to handle.  If you hold them in their wrapper for just a minute to warm a bit, they are soft to chew up too.

Calcium Citrate Chew Bite twice a day.

Citrate does not need an acidic enviroment to be absorbed properly. Carbonate needs an acidic environment and is the cheapest, least absorbed form of calcium out there. Most of us are on an acid reducer, and the carbonate isn't going to be well absorbed at all.

I use Celebrate Calcium Plus 500 chewables. I know Bariatric Advantage makes a lozenge of sorts that is extremely popular as well.

I like the bariatric advantage calcium citrate chewy bites in caramel and raspberry. They are a little pricey, but a yummy treat twice a day!

Thanks for the info. Everyone else keeps saying the chocolate is good but I do love caramel candies. So, do they actually taste like caramel candy? And do you get the 250mg or the 500mg?

I think they taste like caramel. They are sugar free, so they're not exactly like caramel, but I really like them and have to set out my 4 for the day so I don't eat too many of them. I like the caramel better than the raspberry. I get mine from bariatricadvantage.com with the automatic refill program. I don't pay shipping this way and when I got them they were buy 2 bags get one free and they locked me into this price. The get one free was not on the website, I just happened to call them and they told me about it. They are 250mg each.

I was always forgetting to take my calcium since I couldn't take it with my other pills. Now I never forget!
