Okay, somebody help me out here!!   I am 5 days out from surgery and got on the scale and it has not moved!!!  Is this normal for 5 days out???  When will the scale start to move??  I thought that I should have seen some type of movement by now!  Getting a little discouraged and thinking that I did this to myself for nothing.  I'm going to be the odd ball and be one of the few that don't lose with the VSG!

I need some encouraging words right now!  PLEASE HELP!!!

If you're sticking to the liquid diet trust me you'll definitely lose the weight. Stay off the d@mn scale. I mean it. You're still full of IV fluids and I gained weight up until they stopped the IV the day I left the hospital. Don't think about it and just follow the plan. Let me know how you've done in about 25 days.

If I were you... I'd just stay off the scale a while and focus on healing. You just had major surgery and your body is recovering. You probably gained some weight from the fluids they had to pump you with in the hospital. Just focus on getting your water/protein in and try to relax. Getting yourself wound up and stressed out isn't going to help the weight come off, either.

No, you're not going to be the oddball this doesn't work for.

It is very normal and expected to not have lost anything after 5 days.  Typically, you gain weight after surgery, due to all of the fluids they pump into you.  I gained 13 lbs.  The fluid eventually leaves and the weight starts to drop.  I also was very constipated and, until I did something about it on day 8 or 9 (after talking to the Dr.'s office to get the go ahead), I continued to show a gain of about 3 lbs.  After that, I began to lose.  Hang in there, you'll be fine!

Agree with the above.  Wait a bit until you start to heal and flush those fluids out.  Don't stress!

If the scale hasn't moved since before surgery then you've actually lost weight - at least all of your surgery weight gain. I gained about 7 lbs just from the surgery.

You are swollen, probably still holding onto the gas they put in your stomach, bloated and have water weight gain from all the fluids they pump into you.

Calm down. Stay away from the scale for at least another week.

Losing the surgery weight in 5 days is pretty damn good in my book. It took me longer.

dont worry so much, your not even a full week out yet. Alot of people gain weight which is normal too from surgery fluids. Your body will catch up in time and yes i agree to stay away from the scale ,it will drive you crazy. Keep your head up and drink your fluids, everything will be fine.

Keep us posted!

Thank you everybody for the words of encouragement and advice.  This morning was the first time that I stepped on the scale since surgery.  I don't know why I thought that I would see a loss but I did.  I have been sticking to the liquids/protein.  I've been doing the sip, sip, walk, walk, rest, rest!!  I will try and stay off the scale.  I'll try and wait until my 2 week appointment on the 30th and see what the doctor's office scale says.

After the hospital fluids are gone...you will literally wake up thinner.

Relax!  Your biggest concern right now should be following your post-op directions exactly.  Make sure you are getting in your liquids, protein, vitamins.  Make sure you are healing.  My gosh pray that you don't get a leak at this point.  That is where my head was at.  You've had major, major surgery.  Not to scare you, but staples are holding your stomach together - if gastric fluids leaked into your body you'd be in great trouble.  This is serious.  Forget the scale at this point Really!

Do what you you have been instructed and the weight will come off, I promise.

I wish you the very, very best on your sleeve journey.  Hold on and enjoy the ride.
