has sleeve done and thirsty

 I had my sleeve done this morning they are telling me that i cant have anything to drink till tomorrow this sucks. is this normal?

Yes...but I cheated...I kept a wash cloth wet and wiped my tongue and teeth off often...I couldn't take it!

I am still preop, but in the education class I attended we were told we would not be able to drink anything the first day. We are only able to "swish" water around in our mouth to keep it from getting to dry, but absolutely no swallowing. I'm sorry. Congrats on being on the other side of surgery.

Yes it is normal not to be able to drink the first night. Are you thirsty or do you have dry mouth? If you are really thirsty I would tell you nurse - your Iv should be pumping you full of liquids. If it is just dry mouth ask for ice chips or they haventhese mouth swabs (which I thought were icky) or chapstick helped me . Good luck.

They gave me mouth swabs to keep my mouth moist.   That worked ok but my mouth was dry even for the whole first week even when I was able to drink. 

They didn't allow me to drin****il I went home, I had surgery Wed 21,thursday did leak study didn't get to drin****il Friday the day I went home. It was a challenge but I did have mouth swabs they helped some. Good luck on your journey.

Green mouth swab plus ice chips equal my best friend that first night cotton mouth something terrible

They let me have ice chips the evening of my surgery. Saved me. Good luck!

I was the same and they let me have ice chips it saved me too... I am always thirsty tho........

I had surgery at 7:00 am and at 1:00 pm they brought me chicken broth and Jello.
I had a cold picture of water and Ice too.
