My first ER visit (aka, post VSG stomach flu SUCKS!)

Yesterday, I had my first experience of stomach flu after my VSG, and it was AWFUL!  The pain was unbearable, but luckily I feel much better today.

Yesterday, I was completely on plan for food.  Had awesome, high protein meals, and was feeling great early in the day.  I had a mid day soy nut snack, and felt a little off.  After maybe 30 minutes, I was feeling better, and completely forgot about the off feeling.  For dinner, I had another awesome meal.. 2 oz ham, 2 cooked baby carrots, and 1/8 cup blueberries.  After eating, I started feeling bad.  Within an  hour, I was in a LOT of pain.  I had no idea what was causing it... it didn't feel like the bad reaction that I had from avocados...  My husband called the bariatric hotline at our hospital, and they said I should come in.  All in all, I had maybe 2-3 hours of horrible pain.  By the the time the ER doctor was able to see me, I was starting to feel better.  He told me that the stomach flu was going around, but that I should call if I didn't keep getting better.

I wonder if the VSG made the pain worse than if I wouldn't have had one?

Sounds awful. Glad you are feeling better. I would think the surgery might make it more painful as your stomach surgery was less than a year ago. But flu usually lasts a lot longer, so I wonder if that is really what you had? Either way, hope it doesn't come back!

I just had a lovely Christmas Eve trip to the ER...presumptive diagnosis was viral gastroenteritis.  What was interesting for me is that, usually, with stomach flu I have TONS of nausea.  This time, I had episodes of severe upper abdominal pain--but just episodes of a couple of minutes each, not 2 to 3 hours of it.  It was these spasms that sent me to the ER, though, as they were pretty scary.  I did have fever, vomiting and diarrhea, but no nausea in between.  Thank goodness, I hate nausea.
