6 month diet

Anybody else have this requirement? What did the insurance company require you to do. I have been at this for much longer than 6 months and my doctor has written prescriptions for weightloss pills. He will be writing a letter to see if that helps.
My actual goal is to be happy & healthy....doesn't matter what number that lands on.

yep, I had to see my primary dr for 6 months, weigh-in, document what my diet, exercise, & behavorial modification approaches were. I know it sucks, my I was able to get approved by insurance the first time a letter was sent by the surgeon's office by jumping through the hoops they require. good luck!

This is a very common requirement. And they dont mess around with it. I went in once a month from 6/21 to 11/1 for my 6 months. The Dr. would document weight, BMI, diet and exercise program. I did this and was approved right out the gate...no problems.

I have United Health Care. They have a very specific form that has to be filled out by the physician every month for 6 months. It documents the weight, diet recommendations, medications, etc. I didn't lose weight on my 6 month diet, but I did maintain my weight through to holidays so I see that as a success. I usually gain 5-7 lbs after Thanksgiving and Christmas. As long as you follow all the insurance rules, you should be fine. I got approved 1 week after my paperwork got submitted. 6 months goes by fast, so take that time to educate yourself and prepare mentally. good luck!

Thank you everyone, I was scheduled to be sleeved next Tuesday the 14th and now my insurance wants this 6 month diet. I am hoping that we can at least count the last three months since I started this jouney. I guess we will see what they decide to do. They haven't given us any specifics of what they want to see other than "documentation". My primary records my weight, BMI, blood pressure and etc every time I go as well as documentation of the 4 months I was on diet pills prescribed by him. Very disappointed at this point since we were so close

Read your bariatric rider carefully.  I found that there was a choice between a 6 month diet or a supervised 3 month multi discipline program.  So that cut 3 months off my wait right there.  Just had to meet 3 times with a Dr. and Nutritionist.
