Flying 3 weeks post surgery - advice?
I wanted to see what advice you have for traveling, particularly soon after surgery.
I am considering getting a wheelchair for my stopover in Denver as it is a HUGE airport and I will have an hour to transfer. I am sure the walking would be good for me, but I will be doing that getting to my first flight and then at my final destination.
TIA!

I flew to Florida for the holidays (Surgery 12/5; flew out on 12/23). Atlanta was a bit of a challenge, but I took my time. If I have a tight stop over/plane change, I would have requested a wheelchair escort - but I did not need it. Walk, walk, walk. My dr told me to stand up every hour or so on the plan and walk just a little - which I did.
Have fun and take care of yourself!

I fly every week for work. I started by travelling 2 weeks after my surgery and didn't have really any problems. I carry on my luggage, so I boarded the plane with the "pre-boards" which is for people who need extra time boarding the plane. I just talked with the gate agents and told them that I recently had surgery and that was all. I had the flight attendants help me with my bags.
As far as catching your connection, you shouldn't have too hard of a problem walking, but i wouldn't pu**** too hard. An hour should be plenty of time, but if you find yourself in any kind of a rush, definitely just ask for assistance with a wheelchair to get from gate to gate.
It shouldn't be a bad experience at all, if my experience is any indication. Just don't push yourself and don't be afraid to ask for any assistance that is needed.

I flew home 4 days post op, and didn't have any problems at airport terminal change. Did not need wheelchair. I flew on vacation 4 weeks post op and was more then fine flying. However each person has there own recovery period, some tolerate meds/ pain/ exercise differently. I had no complications post surgery.
