Calcium and Heart Attack... how do you feel?
I thought we were taking so much calcium because our bodies have a hard time absorbing it after the surgery due to decreased time in the stomach. If that is the case then the unabsorbed calcium should just leave our systems.
Seems that we are just trying to get back to normal calcium intake, but that we have to do it by taking large dosages.
No concern from me. I was going to have a heart attack with the path I was on before the surgery. At least now I have a fighting chance.

I need to go back and read the discussion from last week. Missed it.
However, I never started Calcium as a post op. My PCP and cardiologist took me off all calcium supplements about 4 years ago based on some studies at that time. Discussed it with my surgeon, of course. He had already been in contact with my other physicians and deferred to their opinion particularly since it was a pre existing condition.
Labs have been great.
Edited to add---my heart problems are not caused by weight but certainly aggravated by excess weight. I wouldn't stop any recommended supplements just based on a study I read. I would work with my PCP, surgeon or other specialist as required.

The news articles left out a lot of vital information to sensationalize the study, so I wouldn't stop the supplements until I talked to an actual doctor.
