I am a little confused about the whole protein thing. During the first week after surgery what kind of protein should I be using?

It depends on your doctor's plan, but generally you'll be on all liquids at that point and will need protein drinks to get your protein in. However, some doctors just want you to focus on fluids for the first few days and then have you add in the protein drinks after the first week or so.

I see you are using Dr. Alvarez. I'm sure there's someone who works for him that you could email and ask?

You may want to start experimenting with protein drinks to see what you do and don't like, but don't go crazy with it because your taste, texture tolerances, etc may change after surgery.

Oh, ok :)

My recommendation is the Premier Protein drinks if you have a Sam's Club or Costco near you.  An 11 oz drink has 160 calories and 30 grams of protein.  They have the texture of chocolate milk, maybe a little thinner.

You could also try the IsoPure liquid protein drinks as well. They have several flavors with 0 carbs, 0 sugars and 45 grams of protein per bottle...
