I am 10 days out and doing very well.  Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild, but persistant heart burn.  My surgeon said to start with Tums and then move on to something else if I need to.  I would love some suggestions as far as OTC heart burn meds since I haven't had much experience with this in the past.  There are so many different options out there.
*Just a side note, I have been given permission to take pills, if I feel comfortable doing so.  Thanks for your help!

I use Zantac 150, which is OTC plus Omeprazole (sp?) which is a prescription. I take both twice per day. I also try to avoid eating or drinking too close to bedtime.

Bith my surgeon and NUT said no Tums, every doctor is different though. I take Prilosec OTC and have no issues.

How did you take your pills early on? I tried cutting one into four smaller pieces and swallowing as usual, only to gag and cough it back up. My surgeon suggested apple sauce. Any help there?

Alot of us are give omeprazole for the first three months after surgery.  You can get it generically over the counter at your grocery store or pharmacy.  Its the generic for prilosec.
