The T of oil and water... what kind of oil? And is that 1T each of oil and water, or combined?

Sounds yummy!

It sounds great, but I'm concerned about the amount of oil. With that list of ingredients it adds up to 346 calories, and over 1/3 of them are from the oil. Has anyone tried making this with less oil? How did it turn out?

Also, what kind of protein are you using that needs extra Splenda added? I've given up on unflavoured whey and have been drinking flavoured versions that are quite sweet.

I use pure protein frosty choclate . I dont know how to do the stats on my fitness pal . I followed the same receipe that was on a DS forum typed in protein cake and this was one of them . how do u come out to 346 cal . that seems kinda high I might never make it again . I use the spenda to make it sweet and its not overly sweet. what  else can I use in place of the oil.

I misread and added the egg that is in most of the recipes I've found, which gave me:

Scoop protein powder 140
Egg 72
1T oil 126
Cocoa powder 20

So - 358 calories, 37g protein, 5g carbs
Without the egg it has 286 calories, 30g protein, 5g carbs.

If it still tastes decent with the oil dropped to 1 tsp, the calories drop to 263 and everything else stays the same. With the lower oil and no egg it's 193 calories, 30g protein, 5g carbs.

Guess who will be experimenting tonight.

Let the experimentation begin!

First try:
Scoop chocolate peanut butter whey powder, 1 egg, 1 tsp oil, 1 packet Splenda, 1 TB cocoa, 1/2 tsp baking powder. 1 minute in microwave. Result - tastes ok, but tough, rubbery - Fred is not impressed.

Second try: scoop brazil cafe whey powder, 1 tsp oil, 1 packet Splenda, 1/2 tsp baking powder, water to mix to cake batter consistency. 35 seconds in microwave. Result - very, very dry, taste is decent if a bit sweet. Fred thinks I should try cooking it for 20 seconds to see if that helps the texture. More oil would help the dryness, but add quite a lot to the calories. Hmm... Applesauce?

Benefit of a "cake" rather than a shake - cake is dense and VERY filling. I was able to eat 1/4 of the first cake and 1/3 of the second. Hubster gets to check out the rest and give suggestions.

Thought - would it be worthwhile to slice the cake very thinly and either nuke briefly or just let dry until crisp? Potentially a sweet "chip?"

I made the black forest recipe from the site linked in an above post- I used no oil and instead used 2 tablespoons apple sauce.  I have no idea what the "normal" texture is like since this was my first, but this was a tad spongy.  I am attributing that to being cooked in the microwave, so next version will be done in my daughter's cute little cake baker thingy.  After that, if it is still too spongy I will try the oil.  I wish they made diet oil!

I am a huge pumpkin spice muffin fan.  I think I am going to use the basic recipe and substitute out oil for pumpkin, kick in some spice, and see how that goes.

Update:  Ok, the chocolate cake completely cooled was awesome!  I didn't like it as much steaming hot.  Made the pumpkin version with a vanilla protein base and my older daughter ate it for dinner.  Both daughters really like them and asked to take them for lunches for school.  Nice!
