I ran across an interesting article concerning a recent study...

"This week’s Insights post on the Now@NEJM blog looks at a new report from the Swedish Obese Subjects study, which found the rate of incident type 2 diabetes in usual-care and bariatric surgery groups was 28.4 and 6.8 cases per 1000 person years, respectively. These findings suggest that surgery is much more efficient than usual care."

I have a copy of the study if anyone wants to read the actual science.

It's a pretty decent study, but the primary surgery used was VBG (stomach stapling), which really isn't used anymore. The main point is that these patients were followed for up to 15 years and this is one of the first (if not the first) study to actually look at WLS as a means of PREVENTING T2D, rather than a treatment. Pretty awesome.
