When did you go back to work

I will be having laparoscopic sleeve surgery, and I have a desk job.  How long were you out of work for that?   Were you well enough to work part time or did you go back full time right away?

thanks!

Stacy

3 weeks off full time and a month part time. I have a great sick leave entitlement plan. If you have no complications and your job does not require lifting and isn't very stressful (my desk job is...) you could go back one to two weeks post op but I would give yourself ample time to heal and regenerate energy.

Sleeved Monday 11/12/2012,  Computer Engineer for a Data Center company, Worked half day at home and half day at the office today. I am lucky to have a really good PTO plan, and I think and delegate a lot, so no lifting or straining.  Really I was tired of looking at the walls in my house, and wanted so see people and friends.

My surgery was local (in the area, not anesthesia:), and I went back to work after just a few days.  It can be done, but Life is right, the more time to recoup the better.  Also, if you have some complications, you will probably need more time.

Good luck to you and welcome:)

Thanks for the info.  I have to write a memo for my boss, letting her know I plan to take the time off.  Of course, she wants to know how much!  I'll say 2 weeks if all goes well.

I began working from home 5 days after surgery and did this for 2 weeks.  This worked out great for me.  My energy was a little low the first month, so I'd advise you to limit after-work activities so you can let yourself rest.  You will have just had major surgery, so you need to respect your body and get plenty of rest.

I am going back Monday. I was sleeved on Nov 5th. So only two weeks! My surgeon wasn't too happy about it....he said you sure you dont want at least another week? Well of course I wish I could take another week but money wise I cant afford it! We shall see how monday goes. GL!

I was sleeved 11/7 and went back on 11/15. I figured I could make it through 2 days to catch-up and then rest over the weekend. I feel fine and I actually have a ton of energy. I could have taken off more time but I was going nuts in the house and my job was seriously missing me (high stress, long hours, demanding people)...I worked 11 hours my first day back, 12 on Friday and I had some hr issues which equaled a fight with a junior. I was fine, but note, it's a desk job...so not all jobs are the same. S

Released from Hospital Fri 8/26/11

Walked in the office Mon 8/29/11....and freaked out my boss. I told him I could either be uncomfortable at home and do nothing...or be uncomfortable at work and accomplish quite a bit!

Had I stayed home, I would have been crawling up the walls!
