I have started my journey towards having VSG (surgery will hopefully be in March) and I have a question for those who have been sleeved for awhile. What do you make for your birthday now that cake is out of the question? Just thinking ahead

Happy to be here,

Melissa

Good question...but since I don't like cake, I'm going LOBSTER!!

I live alone, so don't make anything sweet at home.  Out in the world, though, I'll have a bit of dessert here and there.  So at work if they do a BD cake for me, I'll have a little sliver.  I enjoy it, and then it's over.  (I don't take the leftovers home, though.)  Same with restaurants.  I don't usually order dessert, but every so often on a special occasion I'll have a forkful of someone else's, or sometimes a group orders one or two desserts and forks all around - that works for me!  :-)

I am a 1 1/2 years out from surgery and I allow myself a little dessert.  Truth is I get so full so easily that a few bites of it is all I really want and I don't eat the icing as its to sweet for my taste since surgery.   I do like the idea of the eggface recipies.  She RoCkS the food!  Truth is, I have never found anything I couldn't tolerate so I have to be careful and make good decisions.  Good thing my restriction of my stomach is still good and keeps me in check.   Don't obsess to much on what you cant have, cause chances are a couple months out from surgery, you wont want it anymore. :)  It really is the best cause you dont feel like your missing out!

Honestly, my b'day came and went about 10 weeks after VSG and I really didn't give a hoot about cake or dessert or anything food wise to celebrate my b'day. Now, in maintenance, I do allow myself a sweet treat, but my reality is this: I do my level best to NOT celebrate anything with food anymore. It can be hard sometimes because I'm so food driven (as many of us are) and eating to celebrate is a social norm, but for me VSG has been about changing my life. While b'day cake seems like a little thing to some, to me it represents celebrating with food. When I start "using" food I start getting in trouble. But, that's me.

Anyhow, I have found that fat free, no sugar added Frozen Yogurt is a good food for me. It isn't a trigger and it's a fairly low calorie treat. Perhaps that would work for you.
