Being comfy in my own skin before goal ... bad or good
I'm 26 lbs away from my doctor's goal but have reached a place where losing would be nice but doesn't feel as important. I'm healthier then I've ever been in my adult life. Of course my doctor is going to want me at goal but I like where I am. Advice (even the harsher kind from vets) is very welcome
Depends on how tall you are. I'm 5'8 and my goal is 175 but healthy is 164. I hear you gain about 10 pounds of bounce back weight. I have seen people on OH who are way taller than me whose goal is 150. My body type doesn't work like that. We'll see how it goes. I may need to shoot for 155 just in case I do the bounce back 10. I hope not!
I have no harsh advice for you at all. This is all a personal decision. My guess is that you are now in the healthy range of your BMI and as long as your health is not effected by this decision, than who is hurt by it? We each have to find our own peace with this process and learn what makes us happy and where we feel most comfortable. I say do what you want to do and celebrate your victory. Now if you tell me that your doctor's weight was in the high end of your BMI and you are not overly muscular, and are now 26 pounds away from that goal, I might question your motives for stopping here. The only reason I would wonder about your decision is best health practices. I would hope that you can take this journey to your best health possible, other than that, only you get a voice in this.
OK, I take it all back. I just read your answer that you are 5'2" and I am 5' 1 and am 105 lbs. now. I think 176 is too much for your height for health reasons but if your doctor disagrees with me, I would go back to my earlier answer.
Your BMI is still high at 32.6. I am the same height as you are and my personal goal was 115 and my doctor's goal for me was 120. I think at 178 you might feel great but you will feel greater with less weight. I don't think you should settle. You had this surgery for your health and you should finish what you started. You may think you look great, but you are still overweight. This wasn't just for looks anyway. It's your health that you should be concerned with. Keep up the hard work and get at least to your doctor's goal. Even at 150 you are still overweight. I was 196 when I started. If I had stopped at 178 I would have completely felt like a failure even though I felt better than I did at 196. Getting off all the excess weight feels REALLY good.

Actually Dr Kim's office is flexible on goal weights or at least they were. My original goal was set at 134. Nut David and I changed it to 150 when I was sitting at 175. I weighed in at 134.2 on my 1 year anniversary. Nearly 3 years post-op and am still weighing within 5 lbs of the original goal weight (130-135 maintenance range).
Personally, due to your height, I would go a little lower than where you are even though you may be comfortable in your own skin. In my opinion, you need a little wiggle room once your in maintenance.
Good luck on whatever decision you make!
Not sure why anyone should be harsh with you. This is about YOU. Not what others think you should be. I am 5'4", I am not a small framed person whatsoever. Wrist measures on the high end of bone size and I am very very comfortable at 135-140 pounds. I don't weight that now, but I did about 12 years ago. I think at 5'2" your BMI is still a bit high and you may want to consider your doctors goal. If you feel good now, just wait and see how good you feel when you reach that goal.
