Vegan diet?
I think it would be possible - but could be tricky especially early out. It is so hard to get enough protein in at the start, that people really struggle and many of the vegan options (soy based...) are not as protein dense. Not sure if you would object to having some whey based protein at the beginning to help boost how much protein you are able to get in.
Would suggest you meet with a nutritionist to discuss this.
Very Very hard to do.........
- Hard to get protein amounts
- Hard or can't use the Pyloric Valve to your advantage for increased duration of satiety.....
I'm gonna guess you also have a big/huge problem........ because if you are obese on a Vegan diet..... most times it means that you got obese from carbs/sugar.....
Not impossible...... but it would mean a very very structured and narrow eating plan and probably not optimum......

Frisco makes a great point. If you are going to eat a lot of sugar and white carbs, you will be in bad shape indeed. I eat beans, brown rice, potatoes, fresh vegetables -- in other words, food in its natural state. It fills me up and keeps me healthy. I shudder to think what would happen if I ate refined carbs instead.
This is going to be very difficult to impossible to do. (I've thought about doing this myself).
There's a lot to talk about, but the main issue is that plant-based diets aren't complete sources of amino acids, nor are fully digestible for their amino acid content. Whey-based protein shakes are, as are egg-based protein shakes. But soy-based protein shakes lack some of the amino acids your body cannot produce.
How do you feel about sort-of compromising up to vegetarian diet, so you could have whey sources still?
Actually, there are a number of vegan protein shakes that have complete amino acid profiles. These are my favorite: http://www.sunwarrior.com/what_is_protein/
It is hard. It isn't impossible. I'm proof.
